Boogie, the celeb!
Check this out, Boogie and I are on Dog Milk! This is a very cool design-related website that always makes me want to spend money. 🙂
Here is the link to the article/interview: http://dog-milk.com/the-scoop-lili-and-boogie

Furthermore, we (and Boogie’s blog) have also been mentioned in Australian magazine A Dog’s Life.
Here is one of the scanned pages.
In other news, I haven’t made doggie ice cream yet and am reconsidering the BACON idea. I gave Boogie bacon as treats for a few days – he loved these of course but the tummy troubles and soft poo were not so good. 😦
Boogie’s best Xmas ever
On Christmas eve, two UPS guys showed up at my door with five boxes addressed to BOOGIE.
The amazing PetProjeckt store had sent me toys for drawing reference and some for Boogie to play with.
Just take a look at these! Squeeki Tikis, Chewbies, pizza frisbees… a dazzling range of squeaky chew toys that look like fish, drumsticks, steaks and sea shells. I am giving most of these away as gifts. Check out the collection at www.otomik.com

Here is Boogie with his Squeeki Tiki:
That’s not all. Boogie has also been enjoying some carob-coated bully sticks from www.bestbullysticks.com ( Pretty disgusting to find one of these in your bed when it’s half-chewed, wet and sludgy)
…and a giant plush Santa dog that he unstuffed with glee.
Last but not least, one of Boogie’s birthday presents has arrived – The Nina Ottoson “Dog Fighter” toy, which I think may be too difficult for Boogie. He seems unable to (or doesn’t know how to) grab and lift up the wooden cups. The big ones could be too big for his mouth and he tries to knock them over with his nose instead. When this doesn’t work, he lays down next to the toy, looks at it, then stares up at me as if to say “I give up. YOU do it, mom”.
Happy Birthday Boogie!
December 11th., three years ago, was Boogie’s adoption day.
Video:Â This was how we met.
One kiss from that little dog and I was signing away a $350 donation check to Boston Buddies. Rachel said to me: “If it doesn’t work out, it’s ok. Bring him back and we will refund your money. There are many others who are interested in this little guy.” They all said that he was so unusually calm for a boston terrier… dog-friendly, cat-friendly… which made him a popular choice.
In those first few weeks, Boogie’s dad often exclaimed:Â “This dog is so perfect and well-behaved. There is nothing wrong with him! “
How ironic that this perfect dog would turn out to be so complicated and expensive. 🙂 And of course, VERY LOVED…as he still is today.
Here is an old favorite photo of Boogie sleeping with his beloved tennis balls.

This year Boogie is getting a Nina Ottoson DOG FIGHTER interactive toy. ($50!!??!!) Like all other Nina Ottosons, this toy is designed to “really make your dog think”. Ha – I can’t wait to see what happens…

Recently I received this book – 101 Dog Tricks – as a christmas present. Last week I took advantage of the Tawzer Dog Videos Black Friday Sale and ordered The Magic Of Shaping (DVD). Am I getting carried away here? Will I ever have enough time to do all these training/gaming challenges with Boogie?
Update on Boogie

Following on from my previous blog entry, Boogie is doing fine. His wounds have scabbed over and I have to stop him when he scratches them but otherwise he is a happy doggie at home – very playful and snuggly. He loves his new rubber monkey and joyfully unstuffed a Santa plush in 30 seconds. He also has a new harness – the Comfortflex Harness – which is great because it goes around the shoulders and chest and puts no pressure at all on his neck (where the wounds are).

On our walks, Boogie is more tense than usual and quicker to stiffen when we see another dog, but that’s normal after what happened last week.
In fact, I think I am more traumatized than he is. The other day when we were out walking I heard a clink of metal behind us (like a dog tag or bell). I whipped around and saw a loose furry animal… it was only a cat. Boogie didn’t even see it and he kept trotting along but my heart was beating so fast I felt like I was going to throw up.
There are some excellent posts on the Functional Rewards forum (a Yahoo group for dog trainers and reactive dog-owners who use BAT) which include ideas from many trainers on what to do when you see a loose dog coming at you. I am not alone – other people have had worse experiences with loose reactive dogs, and there are many ways to deal with this problem.
I may get some sort of pepper spray as much as I hate the idea of carrying extra stuff on our walks. Next week, we are doing a BAT session with Irith (The Sophisticated Dog) and her English Shepherd so that Boogie has a POSITIVE experience with a big dog…
Anyway, soon it will be Boogie’s birthday! Three years ago on December 11th, I adopted him from Boston Buddies. I am helping Boogie compile a birthday wishlist 🙂
Below, two photos of the Boogs wearing his new Christmas bow tie.

How handsome is this poker face?

No Halloween costume
I am a slacker at Halloween. I use “being Australian” as my excuse for not getting into the costuming spirit. The idea of wearing one blue contact lens crossed my mind several times but it also slightly creeped me out (I know I am a crazy dog person who is obsessed with my dog… BUT…)
So I don’t have any entertaining Boogie-in-Halloween-costume photos to share…
This is the closest:Â Boogie in a very adorable stripey Freddy Krueger and/or Christmas sweater hand-knitted by my friend Tomomi.
I think Boogie looks pretty cute in his Halloween+Christmas sweater.
Tomomi makes custom handmade sweaters (for humans too). Send her your doggie’s measurements and place your order! Here is her FACEBOOK PAGE.
Questions for Pet People: What do you use?
If there exists something better — more effective & healthier–Â than what I am using, I’d love to know about it! What products would you use and recommend? Please leave comments!
1. What doggie shampoo do you use for skin allergies, itchies etc.? [Using Microtek]
2. What topical product do you use for itchy paws? Keeping in mind that it will be licked off/ingested. [Using Microtek Spray]
3. What spray product do you use to get rid of fleas in rugs, dog beds, sofas etc.? [Using De Flea]
4. What do you recommend for flea bites on HUMANS? I know when there are fleas in my apartment because I always get bitten. This week has been hell. I get a really horrendous allergic reaction to flea bites… the bites swell up red, itch like crazy, and I feel like I am going to die because I start to itch everywhere. Unlike other insect bites, flea bites on me last and itch forever even when I apply hydrocortisone cream, tea tree oil, Aloe Vera, what have you. They itch for MONTHS even after all that’s left is a faint scar. I am not kidding. When I get new bites, the old ones itch again. It’s hell. Is there an equivalent of Comfortis for humans to prevent flea bites?
*UPDATE*
I found an excellent solution for my flea bite problem. Thanks to Letitia for the Lavender Oil recommendation . I mix a few drops of Lavender essential oil in a bottle of Jojoba Oil (from Trader Joe’s) and I moisturize my entire body with this EVERYDAY. No flea bites! I know this stuff works because one day I forgot to apply this mix and I got bitten. I also add some vitamin E oil with the jojoba and lavender for healing old flea bite scars. Smells much better than the typical store-bought insect repellent.
More Boogie art.
It goes without saying that I am a crazy dog person and that I am obsessed with Boogie, so much so that I draw him over and over and over again. It’s easy, you see. He is always next to me or in front of me, or behind me or following me around. I see him all the time. Boogie demands to be seen and that cuteness is unavoidable.
A couple of years ago, I created a Boogie on Mid-Century Modern Furniture calendar as a Christmas gift to my friends. (These illustrations were blogged on Apartment Therapy :))

For 2011, I present the Boogie On Scooters – 2011 calendar! See the pics close-up in my flickr set.

*Note: Some of these colors may change in the final version*
I am researching printing options right now (trying to find the best online deal with the best quality) I am also planning post card versions.
I will let you know when this is available for purchase and I hope that you will all buy calendars for your Bostie or Scooter-lovin’ friends. It will make a great Christmas gift 🙂
Back home with Boogie!
It’s good to be back home with Boogie, whom I missed terribly when I was away for 2 weeks in Malaysia. I met other dogs in Malaysia and thought of Boogie. I watched
How To Train Your Dragon on the plane and thought of Boogie. Speaking of which, there is a new DVD training series from Grisha Stewart – Organic Socialization – which I cannot wait to watch. I have read that this latest DVD is even better than the first one, and what’s more, some of my dog training related illustrations are on it! 🙂
Meanwhile, here are some cool dog behavior related links:

Dog Whispering Can Backfire (I have been drafting a very long blog post on how I feel about The Dog Whisperer. I wonder if it’s worth publishing seeing that there are already tons of passionate online articles on this topic…)

DOG TOYS!
This blog entry has absolutely nothing to do with Boogie. These are MY toys. (inspired by this Phetched.com post)
1. Cactus Pup (Tokidoki) and Masked Dog (Mucha Lucha)

2. Spotbot (TOMY). Mine doesn’t do THIS, though. 😦

3. Bulldog (MERC London) and Boston Terrier (custom). The cute Boston is a cool gift from cartoonist Greg Ham. LUNA sticker on the right.

4. Bawbricks series (MEDICOM). The glittery painting of Boogie was a birthday gift from Dale Sizer.

Do you have any favorite dog toys/figures?
