Trainer vs Trainer – pilot episode

Wow.

In the first 2 minutes, I already guessed who the winner would be … and I was right! šŸ™‚

One thing that isn’t clear is how much time the trainers have off-screen to work with each dog.Ā Ā  I would totally watch a series like this … though, I would want to see more of the training process and relationship between the trainers and dogs, and not only the results at the time of judging.

How funny that dog training has become a sort of competitive sport. In some ways I think it’s a great idea to broadcast different trainers and different techniques to break the monopoly that The Dog Whisperer show has on what people believe about dog behavior.

P.S. I don’t have access to Animal Planet unfortunately, but I’m a Shorty Rossi fan!

Hmm, super fun idea but it would be so much better if any of the judges actually had ANY dog training or behavior mod experience šŸ˜‰ Shorty is a character but he immediately puts prongs and chokes on all those pits he rescues 😦

I thought one of the judges was a dog trainer? (Must’ve missed something) I didn’t know that Shorty uses prongs and chokes on the pits… 😦

I agree about setting realistic goals for the walk. It is easy to get discouraged when dealing with a reactive dog, and remembering to base their success on a “better than yesterday” point of view is a lot more fair to the dog than comparing them to a relaxed non-reactive dog.
That dog training show is cute! I’d like to hear each trainer explain their method and maybe have them choose from shelter dogs with similar previous levels of training, to level the playing field a bit.

There was a competitive dog training show on an outdoors channel years ago. They paired regular people with shelter dogs and had challenges they needed to pass each week. It was in the day of traditional training so they used choke chains BUT they also used alot of praise. (probably because it was on TV) I’ve been searching to try to find clips of it to no avail. I wish I remembered what it was called or at least the channel it was on. I would love to see this idea undated. Oh and the people all adopted the dogs they were paired with at the end of their run.

Marie – I would love to see that show. I wonder what it was called… do you remember any names? Cool that the people adopted their dogs!
